Known for its laid-back vibe, kite surfing, and beautiful beaches, it remains less developed than Holbox or Tulum. ## Review Beautiful and remote beach town in the far northeast side of the state of Yucatán, about a 3.5 hour drive from [[Mérida]]. With its white sand beaches, quaint little town, and day trips (some via ATV) to Las Coloradas and more, it's a great destination to relax for 2-3 days. El Cuyo has several good lodging options including [[Casa Awakening, El Cuyo]]. ## Photos ![](https://imagedelivery.net/ovR1Qijui3Wbt-cTc_WcPg/38a805be-4210-49c8-e3ac-7cb673649f00/web) *(December 18, 2024) Two fishermen chatting in the town of El Cuyo.* Canon EOS R6 Mark II, RF28-70mm f2 L USM @ 70mm, f/6.3, 1/640s ![](https://imagedelivery.net/ovR1Qijui3Wbt-cTc_WcPg/037ed3ef-acdb-4659-4e91-3f139db20800/web) *(December 19, 2024) Sanderling on the beach in El Cuyo.* Canon EOS R3, RF100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM @ 500mm, f/7.1, 1/2500s ![](https://imagedelivery.net/ovR1Qijui3Wbt-cTc_WcPg/77d78221-124b-498d-81d2-c5f09866a700/web) *(December 17, 2024) On the beach in El Cuyo.* Canon EOS R6 Mark II, RF28-70mm f2 L USM @ 70mm, f/14, 1/200s
