## Background
Río Lagartos is a town in the state of Yucatán, Mexico. It is the gateway to the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve famous for its large flamingo colonies, salt ponds (Las Coloradas), and diverse birdlife.
